Miniature Bull Terriers have been part of our lives for nearly 40 years
We are Graham & Maureen Hughes “GRAYMOR MINIATURE BULL TERRIERS”
HISTORY
Our first dog was a Bull Terrier “Halfpenny” a daughter of Ch Souperlative Jackadandy of Ormandy & Ch Bancoup Bobby’s Girl bred by Stuart and Cynthia Banks who introduced us to show dogs and dog showing.
“Halfpenny” was the runt of the litter and had been quite sick as a young puppy and we were actually given her. When Halfpenny was fully grown she was only 15 inches. Stuart & Cynthia took us to our first shows at SWKC which was then held in Cardiff at Sophia Gardens and to Bath after these shows we decided go to Birmingham City at Perry Park and took Halfpenny with us even though she was not entered. We watched the “Bullys” the judge was Mrs Norma Smith (Magor) from Canada and then she judged the “Minis” which we had never seen or even know about and were quite smitten with, as I say we had Halfpenny with us and quite a few of the exhibitors came up to us asking if she was a Mini and were quite surprised to find she was a “Standard” especially when we told them her breeding. We spent quite a lot of time talking with Zoe Berry (Zedbees) and she invited us to come down to see her and her mothers’ dogs at Little Marlow.
Not knowing what to expected a few weeks later we set of for “Fern House” in our little blue mini and were a bit in awe when we arrived at a rather grand residence to be greeted at the gates by Diane and a horde of mini bull terriers who appeared from everywhere and so a lifetimes friendship with her and our love affair with mini’s began.
Our first interbred litter (Feb 1979) by Halfpenny and Ch Zedbees Zalmore owned by Hazel Smith produced four girls including our first Champion Graymor Genisis who Diane told us when we brought the litter for her to see was the best and the one to keep even though we had fallen in love with the red girl (Sasha) in the litter we took her advice. Sasha was in fact sold to a very good friend of Diane’s Mrs Mable Simpson (Solway) one of the founders of the Miniature Club in 1948 who unfortunealy died a few years later and we had Sasha back and infact bred her to Ch Zebdees Zedtozee and produced Ch Graymor Graduate.
So started Graymor Miniature Bull Terriers it is said that all kennels are built on lines and over the years we have never been afraid to go out and use a dog or buy a dog from a different kennels if we felt that he/she had something to offer ( that said we still have one of our bitch lines which goes through 10 generations back to Halfpenny) in our quest for the “perfect mini”
That quest continues.
